On my journey home from the NPA EXPO in Las Vegas my mind revolved around what I was going to write to describe the wonderful event that the NPA put together. Upon my arrival home all thoughts were placed on hold as the sight of my distressed potted herbs and plants had me gasping, “oh no, all my months of hard work down the drain! So before I could unpack my bags, I was out in my backyard, analyzing what had gone wrong with the plants  in just the few days I had been away. Potted plants are easily maintained as long as 3 things are in play, water, proper sunlight and drainage. This past week, our area was pelted with heavy rain , followed by sweltering heat, which actually baked the soil into hard impermeable rock, cutting off the delicate root system from nourishing the plant. While transplanting the plants in fresh soil, my mind was still fresh with the many fascinating conversations from the NPA EXPO. With my hands busy saving the potted plants I was able to make another connection. Pawnbrokers are very similar to  potted plants as they need to have  3 things to flourish; capital, customers and a motivated labor force. If any of those 3 components fall out of balance the business underperforms. NPA Expo 2014 was an excellent event and perfectly executed by the fine team of the NPA. With some 18 education sessions and 116 Vendors exhibiting the latest technology and products available there was more than enough to satisfy any need of information and more insight on how to deal with the next year of business. In short, there is no reason for a Pawnbroker not to flourish after coming away from this year’s event. Which reminds me, there is a 4th element for the survival of my potted plants and pawnbrokers and that is, TAKE ACTION!
