In Davidson County N.C. only pawn shops and precious metal dealers are required to track and report to the police who brings items in their shops. Police say roughly 90 percent of stolen items they recover are found through this reporting method.
There is however, a gap in the system. Second-Hand dealers also buy items from the public but, as of now, are not required to report anything to the police. The Davidson County Sheriff’s office is trying to change that.
